My journey into motherhood was rough. My first daughter was 6 weeks early and we found ourselves in the NICU for 2 weeks. I felt disconnected and honestly quite frustrated that we didn't get to bond. That first year was so hard. I lived 5 hours away from family, my husband was in the military at the time, and we had just moved.... so I had no community.
When we got pregnant with my second, it felt like the "re-do" I needed to FINALLY become the mom I thought I'd be. I got to hold my second daughter and bond with her after birth, but my gut knew something was wrong. It's honestly a blur at this point, but we found ourselves in the NICU again. This time things were even more serious... she had a rare heart defect.
I was a stay-at-home mom of two under two and I thought I missed my calling to motherhood. I was unhappy, miserable, and very burned out. I felt angry more than I was happy.
When my second daughter was about 10 months old, I broke down in the middle of my living room floor. My children were both screaming and I was sobbing in absolutely hopelessness. I prayed that God would lead me into healing.
That next week my therapist recommended going back to school to become a Certified Parent Coach.. and that's where my journey began.
I promised myself that if I found healing... and became the mom I wanted to be I would share that with the world.
The craziest thing is that my kids didn't need to get older.. I didn't need for them to sleep through the night.. or wait for a phase to end..
All I needed was to reconnect to myself, unlearn my beliefs, understanding why I was raging, and finally setting myself free with empathy.
